Fresh Market Opens in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach — The Fresh Market, a chain of gourmet supermarkets based in North Carolina, made its Treasure Coast debut Aug. 26 when it opened a store at Miracle Mile in Vero Beach, company executives said.
Gene Baxley Schwiers, director of recruiting and human resources at The Fresh Market, said the company is excited about opening its first Treasure Coast location.
“Everyone here has been very welcoming,” Schwiers said.
Schwiers and 14 other recruiters held a career open house at the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa.
“Our first interview was at 6:15 (a.m.),” Schwiers said. “We’ve had great turnout so far we won’t leave until we see our last interview.”
Port St. Lucie resident Denise Kuba got up before 7 a.m. to drive to Vero Beach before lunchtime. She and dozens of job seekers flooded part of the hotel for on-the-spot interviews Wednesday.
“I’ve got a lot of experience in retail so I am looking for either a deli or cashier job,” said Kuba who moved to the Treasure Coast from Illinois in July.
Vero Beach resident Charlotte Stewart is hoping to get a demonstrator position at the grocer.
“I’ve done demonstrations at Publix and Wal-Mart … so I am really hoping this works out,” Stewart said.
The grocer is hiring general managers, meat cutters, bakers, deli managers, gift and floral specialists, coffee and candy specialists, and seafood and cheese specialists. Schwiers said The Fresh Market would employ about 80 to 85 area residents. Applicants selected for a second interview will be contacted next week.
