The fall and holiday season at the Orchid Island Golf and  Beach Club is in full swing! As usual the Club is full of activity and  there is a robust schedule of events during November and December that are  sure to please everyone.

You won’t want to miss the Craft Beer  Dinner on Wednesday, November 18th. The evening begins with a reception at  6 pm.

Then, Wednesday the 25th get in some early exercise and venture out  on the Kayak excursion beginning at 9am. It will be just the thing you need  to get your appetite going for Thanksgiving Dinner on  Thursday.

On Wednesday, December 2nd Orchid Island Golf and Beach  Club will host a “Toys for Tots” charity. This thoughtful event will surly  bring cheer to those in need the holiday. Club members and guests are  welcome to join the event for a cocktail hour from 5:30-6:30 pm followed by  a Steakhouse Buffet. What a great way to give back to the community by  making a donation to charity and spending time with fellow members to  prepare for this holiday season.

Orchid Island Golf and Beach  Club will also host a trivia night on Wednesday, December 9th. This is sure  to be a fun family night at the club followed by cocktails and dinner.  After trivia night, we are only 2 weeks away from Christmas! It’s hard to  believe but mark your calendars now for our Christmas Eve Candlelight on  December 24th. It will be a special way to begin your Christmas  celebration.

To work off all of those holiday treats, make sure you  come out to our Kayak Excursion on December 30, just what you need to get  you ready for our New Year’s Eve Celebration on December  31st!

Don’t forget every Thursday in November and December is  Golf Ladies’ Day and every Friday in November and December is Golf Men’s  Day. Make sure you come out to practice your swing!

VERO BEACH — Vero Beach — The Fresh Market, a chain of gourmet supermarkets based in North Carolina, made its Treasure Coast debut Aug. 26 when it opened a store at Miracle Mile in Vero Beach, company executives said.

Gene Baxley Schwiers, director of recruiting and human resources at The Fresh Market, said the company is excited about opening its first Treasure Coast location.

“Everyone here has been very welcoming,” Schwiers said.

Schwiers and 14 other recruiters held a career open house at the Vero Beach Hotel & Spa.

“Our first interview was at 6:15 (a.m.),” Schwiers said. “We’ve had great turnout so far we won’t leave until we see our last interview.”

Port St. Lucie resident Denise Kuba got up before 7 a.m. to drive to Vero Beach before lunchtime. She and dozens of job seekers flooded part of the hotel for on-the-spot interviews Wednesday.

“I’ve got a lot of experience in retail so I am looking for either a deli or cashier job,” said Kuba who moved to the Treasure Coast from Illinois in July.

Vero Beach resident Charlotte Stewart is hoping to get a demonstrator position at the grocer.

“I’ve done demonstrations at Publix and Wal-Mart … so I am really hoping this works out,” Stewart said.

The grocer is hiring general managers, meat cutters, bakers, deli managers, gift and floral specialists, coffee and candy specialists, and seafood and cheese specialists. Schwiers said The Fresh Market would employ about 80 to 85 area residents. Applicants selected for a second interview will be contacted next week.

The 4th of July is fast approaching. We have plenty of club events to keep you celebrating from morning until the evening fireworks.

Beginning bright and early, the Star Spangled Scramble will start at 8:30 am. Show your spirit for Old Glory in the annual 4th of July Scramble. For details sign up online or call the Golf Shop. An express breakfast will be served followed by an awards cookout at the Golf Club.
After the Star Spangled Scramble, the Independence Day celebration will continue at the Golf Club beginning at 6pm. A putting contest and Cocktails A La Carte will keep you occupied until the cookout at 7pm. Stick around the Golf Club for a spectacular fireworks display at 9pm.

Come out July 5th for the Managers Cocktail Party on the Beach from 5:30pm to 6:30 pm. Enjoy complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the beach. Stick around or the Poolside Cookout from 6:30pm to 8pm after the Managers Cocktail Party. It will be a casual poolside cookout with a delicious menu of summertime salads, hotdogs, hamburgers and grilled fish. Enjoy the sounds of steel drum music and a casual summer cookout.
